Self Defense for Women

Description

TECHNIQUES:

During each class session we will practice the fundamental techniques of the RAD systems of Self Defense.   Main techniques include:  block and parry, hammer fist, punches, elbow strikes, kicks, knee strikes, ground defense, and defense tactics to counter choke holds, bear hugs and wrist grabs.

 

GRADING:

Pass/ No Pass basis, .5 units.  Grading is based on participation and attendance.  Students are allowed a total of 3 absences.   Skipping the class final is an automatic No Pass grade. In addition, technical and tactical skill development is assessed and supported throughout the quarter.

 

Please arrive on time.  Class starts promptly on the hour.   If you are late, you will miss the lesson on theory.   Afterwards, theory is applied and we will practice executing the moves using hand held targets.  We will be making physical impact, person-to-person.  If you are late, you will not be able to participate during the practice session, due to safety issues.

 

REQUIRED COURSE MATERIAL:

RAD Student Manual must be purchased for $8.99.  Students can buy a copy at  DAVIS COPY MAXX  (formerly Davis Copy Shop)  232  Third Street.

ATTIRE:

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for vigorous movement.

 

 

The instructor and class TAs will supervise the class at all times. Please be aware there are risks and dangers inherent in participating and/or receiving instruction in PE1 activity course.  Injury resulting from participation is always a possibility during physical activity.  Please carefully follow guidelines provided by your instructor immediately if you become injured or ill or feel that you shouldn’t participate in a given activity.  Unless otherwise expressly indicated by the student, the assumption is that the student is in good health and is capable of participating in all facets of the physical activity related to this class.
