COURSE DESCRIPTION: PE 1 racquetball is geared to beginning and intermediate playing ability.  The course will consist of fundamentals, strategy, shot selection, rules and game play in singles, doubles and cutthroat. The course will include activities designed to develop fundamental technical and tactical skills and not solely game play.


COURSE OBJECTIVES: The course is intended to provide opportunities for class members to accomplish the following:  the student will 
learn the basic principles of four wall racquetball (singles, doubles, cutthroat) 
acquire skill in the basic strokes of the game such as forehand, backhand, overhead smash, 
learn basic shot selection and execution such as passing shots, kill shots, ceiling shots, pinch                shots, 
learn basic racquetball strategies

develop interest in racquetball as a possible lifetime recreational activity. develop                               sportsmanship and self motivation improve fitness level and appreciation for healthful                      living 
have fun.

SAFETY:
Eye guards/ goggles are MANDATORY. 
Please look and knock before entering any court where play is taking place. 
Do not face opponent and watch him/her hit the ball. Be facing the front wall on contact. 
Always wear the safety strap on your wrist. 
Be aware of your opponent’s position at all times. 
With the possibility of hitting your opponent, do not take the shot and call a hinder. 

GRADING AND EXPECTATIONS
Each student is expected to attend class regularly.  In addition, technical and tactical skill development is assessed and supported throughout the quarter.

Active participation by all class members is expected in order to receive credit for attendance A maximum of 3 absences are allowed. More than 3 absences results in a No Pass. 
Course is graded exclusively  PASS/NO PASS. 
Shirts and closed toe shoes are required.  
Racquets and balls will be provided for students at the courts

**There are risks and dangers inherent in participating and/or in receiving instruction in a PE-1 activity course.  Injury resulting from participation is always a possibility in physical activity.  Please carefully follow the guidelines provided by your instructor.  Please notify your instructor immediately if you become injured or ill, or otherwise expressly indicated by the student, the assumption is that the student is in good health and is capable of participating in all facets of physical activity related to this class.
