COURSE OBJECTIVES:

This course is intended for novice or beginning swimmers who want to learn how to swim.  The course will consist of basic swimming instruction and water safety considerations.

 

COURSE EXPECTATIONS:
Attend class and be on time. Participate in class for the entire 40 minutes. Wear appropriate swimming attire. Goggles are required. Caps are required for students with hair long enough to reach her/his eyes. Ask questions if you are unclear about a swimming skill. Learn how to swim and/or improve your swimming skills.


GRADING POLICY:
This course is a 1/2 unit course that is graded pass/no pass. You are permitted three or fewer absences. If you have three or fewer, you will receive a pass. If you have more than three, you will receive no pass. In addition, technical and tactical skill development is assessed and supported throughout the quarter.

 

SAFETY ORIENTATION:
There are risks and dangers inherent in participating and/or receiving instruction in a PHE 1activity course. Injury resulting from participation is always a possibility in physical activity. Please carefully follow the guidelines provided by your instructor and adhere to any rules established by the instructor. Please notify your instructor immediately if you become injured or ill, or feel that you shouldn't participate on a given day.

Unless otherwise expressly indicated by the student, the assumption is that the student is in good health and is capable of participating in all facets of the physical activity related to this course.
